We are the Huntington High-school Gearheads. Huntington is a small, rural town in East Texas about 11 miles south east of Lufkin. Our school district is a relatively poor one. In fact, we are the fifth poorest school district in Texas. However, our team is very blessed because we have a supportive principal and superintendent, school board, parents and community. They all help us any way the can financially, but it still is a challenge.
Our school has had an active robotics program for the past 12 years. We began competitions in the early years with the Texas Computer Educators Association and won first place in the Inventions Division for four years in a row. We then began competing in FIRST as a First Tech Challenge Team. We won many awards and attended the World Championships in three of the seven years that we competed.
This year we begin our journey with VEX Robotics. We are very excited to start this new adventure. We look forward to meeting new people, learning new skills, and being able to participate in skills challenges.
We love what we do. Each year is a challenge and we are working hard to make this another great year. We are ready for “Nothing But Net.” We have two returning team members from last year and eleven new members. This is a big turnover, but we have learned a lot so far and are ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
Our theme this is “SUIT UP” for “Nothing But Net.” You will know us by our black suits and red ties. Look out, here we come.
